QUESTIONNAIRE:
- What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family? - Family is the people you choose, the people you love, the people you stand by and who stand by you. The people you fight for. Family is Uncle Kaz and everyone at Morning Glory and Yuta and my son and even Akiyama-san. Blood doesn't matter as much as choice.
- How do you define "success"? What is something you're ambitious about? - Success is about being with the people you love and being where you want to be. It's easy to follow your dreams to someplace where you don't even recognize and sometimes you find people along the way who made it worth it, but any dream is only as good as the life you get to lead and the people you get to be with. I wanted to be a star, and I proved to myself and everyone that I had what it took to get there. Now, I want to make my family whole again, be with the person I care about most. That's why I'm here and why I'll do what I have to to fulfill my contract.
- What is the most frightening thing you've ever done? What part of you did it test the most? - People probably would think it was when I stood up in the Tokyo Dome and told everyone that the man who raised me was yakuza, but that wasn't it at all. That... even though it didn't turn out the way I'd hoped, that felt good. It felt right. No, it was the moment I packed my bag and left Morning Glory. It was my first time stepping away from everyone I love and it made me really understand what I'd asked Uncle Kaz to do for my dream. It was scary, not having anywhere to go or anyone to turn to, and I knew that if anyone caught sight of me, I'd be in the tabloids immediately and it might come back to hurt them. I was lucky, that I found the people of Ono Michi but it was really the first time I was on my own. I'm doing it again to be here, and it is frightening, but because of that first time, I know I can survive. And I know I can find what I need.
- An enemy of your faction has asked for a meeting, proposing a truce of sorts to deal with a greater threat. On one hand, there is indeed a threat at hand, but on the other, this person double-crossing you is just as likely an outcome. Do you agree to the meeting? Do you trust them? - I don't trust them; that would be stupid. But I will agree to the meeting. I'll make sure to tell other people where I'm going and what I'm planning and if I can get someone to come with me as back up, to not do it alone, I will. I'll also try and make sure I know the place I'm going to meet them or find out enough to have an exit and a plan. That kind of thing is going to happen, but keeping your eyes and your ears open might get you more than they planned to give you.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Haruka is a normal human girl with no supernatural abilities. We do know, however, that she is an expert at reading people (can smell a lie at a thousand paces) and that she's a celebrity-level idol (dancing, singing, meet and greet events).
SUITABILITY: Haruka's life has been intertwined with the yakuza since her birth. Her mother worked for a family assassin/patriarch and her father was a politician in bed with the clan chairman. That violence touched her life very early, as she watched both her mother and her father die and it continued for most of her childhood in one form or another given that her adopted father, Kazuma Kiryu, can't find a way out of it to save his own life. She's stood up to a man who was willing to hand someone another person's head in a box and slapped him at the age of like 12, stood in front of people to protect them from bullets, speaks her mind to and deals with legends of the yakuza without hesitating or fear. When there's a plot that kills someone close to her, her immediate response is to get on the case and figure out what happened and nothing, friend or enemy, was going to stop her. Despite having no martial power, she's smart as hell, has the gumption to act, and she's tough. When a car came flying at her to kill her and her baby, she shielded him with her body and it's the only reason her son survived. She's a protector and a fighter through and through in her own way. But it says something that the very first scene you meet her in as a 10 year old, she has 1. snuck her way into the city to find her mother 2. is in a bar full of murdered people and the only survivor and 3. is clutching a gun to her chest to use if necessary. Girl is a SURVIVOR. She's also willing to do what she has to do; when her family was having money troubles, she went into town and got a job smuggling to help with the grocery money. And she was very very good at it! She knew it was shady but it was the kind of shady she could live with so she did it.
...she also has no issue with the rough and tumble of it when it isn't, you know, going after helpless little kids. Since she was a little girl, she was a-okay with standing on the sidelines and cheering as Kiryu beat the living shit out of assholes.
FACTION SUITABILITY:
- Shuten Clan - as this is the clan that is most like the yakuza proper, this is the clan that would be the most familiar to her. The fact that they're very against lying is definitely to her speed; she's not a fan of liars either and she's known to call people on their bullshit more often than not. Proven to be able to catch cheaters at the age of 10, she'd be good to supervise the gambling and make sure no one's using trick dice etc. That old school yakuza ideal is what she was raised by so seeing it here would be something that she might not entirely agree with but the honor system is definitely her jam.
- Tamamo Clan - the more gentle power of the Tamamo sound very much up her alley, and she definitely has the insight to go well there. While she's never had physical strength, she's able to see through people and get to the heart of what's important to them, see their insecurities, and she can sense what bothers people. Her desire to ease that can be seen in her choice to be an idol and her feelings of responsibility to her mentor's wishes, to see her dream of the Tokyo Dome come true. The idea of freedom will be super appealing to her given that she's felt somewhat trapped by one thing or another over the years, including the perceptions around her family and where she came from.
- Sutoku Alliance - given her own lack of physical might, the lack of 'might makes right' here would definitely appeal to her and the way that the various tribes combined together has a certain found family aspect that would also appeal given her own family was at an orphanage (first Sunshine and then Morning Glory). The theatres and gaming would work for her, given her history as a performer so she knows what goes into show business and the difficulties there, despite her young age. She's very good at ferreting out secrets and playing the detective and knows the value of knowledge intensely from her life, so being someone who deals in that kind of thing would suit her.
- Department of the Enma - The idea of being a part of and helping to keep the order would suit Haruka, as she's seen the necessities of maintaining a balance even in the underworld more than once. She understands some of the moral relativism that the position would require and she's not the kind of person to balk at some fucked up shit; for her age and her lack of violent nature, she's ready to stand up to just about anyone and anything if it means keeping the peace. So that peacekeeper title would 100% work for her. She's also excellent at diffusing the situation and she keeps her temper more often than not, knowing how to keep her eye on the bigger picture and serve the greater needs.
